  Group Cancer Cover

Please note: Group Cancer Cover is provided and underwritten by Friends Life Limited, part of the Aviva Group. The following information refers to Group Cancer Cover policies quoted after September 2015.

Aviva Group Cancer Cover is an affordable, employer paid benefit that is simple and easy to administer and will provide a tax free lump sum benefit of £25,000 if the scheme member is diagnosed with cancer (as defined in our Terms and Conditions). Tax rules are subject to change and are based on individual circumstances.

Payment of benefit is subject to a survival period of 14 days after diagnosis. Also, unlike other cancer covers available, we provide some cover for employees who have been previously diagnosed with cancer. A benefit would be payable for a diagnosis of a new, unrelated cancer as defined by the policy terms. For full details please see our Terms and Conditions and our Technical Guide.

The lump sum cover provides a real help to a client’s employees who are diagnosed with cancer and has been designed to provide a benefit the scheme member can use to meet the everyday costs associated with a diagnosis of the disease.

The benefits of Group Cancer Cover include:

  • Fixed lump sum benefit of £25,000 to the member.
  • Payment on diagnosis of cancer, as defined in the policy cover, provided your employee survives for at least 14 days from diagnosis.
  • Includes some protection for employees who have been previously diagnosed with cancer.
  • The actual cost may be further reduced by corporation tax relief.
  • Easy to set up and administer.
  • Simple annual accounting process.
  • Emotional and practical support from trained nurses.
  • Expert medical information, advice and second opinions.
Lump sum benefit is usually free of all taxes to the member.
Please note that the policyholder’s premiums count as a benefit in kind for employees.
For more information please contact 0800 145 5684.

Why cancer cover?

  • By 2020 nearly one in two people are expected to be diagnosed with cancer over their lifetime but 38% will not die from the disease.1
  • Four in ten people who are working when diagnosed have to make changes to their working lives after cancer. 2
  • 4 in 5 people diagnosed with cancer are financially affected and on average are £570 per month worse off. 3

RedArc

RedArc offers a long term Personal Nurse Adviser service that provides practical advice and emotional support following a cancer diagnosis. The service is provided by telephone and available at claims stage to members and their families. RedArc nurses take the time to understand each member’s specific diagnosis and talk to them about what they’re going through. This service provides one-on-one ongoing support with the same Personal Nurse Adviser for as long as required.

We understand that it can be a difficult time for members to talk about their diagnosis, so they don’t have to talk to RedArc straight away. They don’t have to talk to them at all. It’s up to them. This extra value service is provided as standard but is non-contractual and may be withdrawn by the Aviva Group at any time without notice.

Claims

Our claims process is simple, to ensure payouts are made faster to your clients and their employees.

In order to make a claim we usually need the following to be supplied. However, your client should call us and we can talk them through the details that we’ll need in more detail.

  • An employee claim form. Signed by the member and sent to us as soon as possible, and in any case within three months of first diagnosis.
  • A completed employer’s claim form.
  • Medical evidence to confirm that the diagnosis meets the definition of cancer covered by this policy.
  • A diagnosis or medical opinion which is acceptable to our Chief Medical Officer and is given by a UK hospital Consultant in the area of medicine appropriate to the cause of the claim.
In some instances we may need further information, but we’ll contact your client should we need to do so.

As soon as we receive notification of a claim we’ll work with your clients to support their employees’. Every one of our claims team is trained to handle details sensitively. If you have any questions relating to a claim, we can be contacted on 0345 607 0035.

Once we start the claim process we’ll make sure that the member has all the information they need in terms of the claim and both the Best Doctors® and RedArc services. These added value services are provided as standard but are non-contractual and may be withdrawn by the Aviva Group at any time without notice.
