E-mail Security Warning
Aviva believes the use of Internet E-mail is intrinsically unsafe: the equivalent of sending an open postcard through the post. At the moment we strongly advise NOT sending any information of a Personal nature over the Internet. Please read our guidelines below before doing so.
E-mail Guidelines
At Your Risk
We are not satisfied that E-mail across the Internet is at present a secure method of communication or that the integrity or delivery of messages can be guaranteed. Therefore any messages sent to us by this method are at your risk. In particular we will not accept liability for any claims by you and/or your clients for damages or loss arising from:
- breach of confidentiality;
- breach of the Data Protection Act;
- mistakes arising from inaccuracies in the data transmitted to or received by us;
- non delivery of any message from you to us.
Client's Consent
We strongly recommend that you do not send client's personal data across the Internet. However if you do it is essential that the client in question must have:
- received a warning that the Internet is not secure or guaranteed; and
- consented to its use.
Limitation of Data Transmitted
Even if your client consents it is wise to take action against the risk of data being intercepted and used by someone else. We recommend that any communication sent to us via the Internet includes only two of the following four components to enable us to identify the client:
- policyholder's name
- policyholder's address
- policyholder's date of birth
- policy number
Aviva Reply
We will reply to your enquiries which involve client's personal data through the post or by telephone as appropriate but not at this stage via the Internet.
Notice
When sending Internet E-mail to us you may wish to include a warning to others at the beginning of the message, for example, "This message is intended only for Aviva. If it has been received by you in error please contact us immediately. Legal proceedings could be taken against you for misuse of the information in this message.
